This species feeds diurnally by sight and taste in benthic areas of slow to swift current over various substrates with little siltation *784,8855*. It principally feeds on aquatic insect larvae and pupae as follows: Diptera 93.4% (composed of Chironomids (midges) 41.5% and Simuliids (black flies) 51.9%).
