Comments

They are also known as the least brown bat, and Leib's bat *152,286,20,2117, 89*. Numerous sources list it as M. leibii *20,141* or M. leibii leibii *147,286,20*. The best authority seems to confirm M. subulatus leibii as the correct name *134,152,219,2117,89*. Two Virginia specimens are in the U.S. National Museum, numbers 270086 (Bath) and 28377 (Highland) *2118*. The original name of this myotis was Vespertilio leibii *PA7306*. Hall (1981) calls it Myotis subulatus *134*, but it is following Honacki et. al. (1982) *PA8785*. This species is also known as the least brown bat, Leib's bat *20,89,152,286,2117*, and small-footed brown bat *8809*. Numerous sources list this species as M. leibii *20,141* or M. leibii leibii *20,147,286*. Some authorities confirm M. subulatus leibii as correct *89,134,152,219,2117*. In 1842, Dr. George C. Leib, Erie County, Ohio, sent a sin- gle specimen of a small brown bat to Audubon and Bachman. This specimen was not recognized as a new species, but simply a geographic variety of a species described in 1823 by Say under the specific name subulatus *90:73*. Many symomyms are found in the literature, including Myotis subulatus, Myotis subulatus leibii, Myotis leibii leibii, and Vespertilio subultus *20, 90,11465,376,2092,PA11369,45,PA11491,11517*. A total of 23 specimens, plus Dr. Leib's specimen were collected by Mohr in the 1930's (8 Males, 13 females, 2 unknown sex). All specimens collected by Mohr are archived at the Reading Public Museum, Reading, PA. *1567,PA11464,11568*. Three specimens are in collections held by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History *11381*. Other common names form this species are small-footed bat *PA11491*, least brown bat *20,90, 90,370,PA11464,PA11491*, least bat *PA11567*, Leib bat *90, Leib's *376*, and Say's little brown bat *2092*.
