Reptile Day at the VMNH

Reptile Day was successful in that there were many visitors that showed and talked to most of us about the animals and information we had on display. The VHS display featured information on membership and benefits, annual surveys, and research. On display at the VHS exhibit were a hoop turtle trap shown in the position that it would be if it were set in water, the snake poster, copies of Catesbeiana, the VHS Newsletter, and the Guide to the Snakes of Virginia, turtle shells, and several live specimens. The live specimens included: marbled and spotted salamanders, juvenile common five-lined skink, northern red salamander, stinkpot, eastern painted turtle, eastern gartersnake, rough greensnake, and eastern (or black) ratsnake. Of course, the live animals were the most popular part of the exhibit. Jason Gibson also gave a presentation in the lecture room on venomous reptiles and poisonous amphibians.
