Data set contains global and state specific taxonomic information on plant, animal, and natural community elements considered rare in Alabama, as well as rarity ranks (Heritage, USFWS, USESA) and specific known localities of elements across the state.
PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE:
To provide biological data to be used in statewide conservation planning, research projects, and development projects.

DATA ACCURACY:
DATA QUALITY INFORMATION (How accurate is the information?):
As accurate as the source information from which it was obtained. Overall, quality control on all data added to BCD is strictly adhered to.
QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL MEASURES USED:
Point localities are individually checked for accuracy in transcription from the source, transferrence to maps, and data entry into BCD.
ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY, LOGICAL CONSISTENCY, COMPLETENESS & LINEAGE:
Attribute accuracy varies according to the source. Since all data is in the standardized BCD format, logical consistancy should be high. Although far from complete for a state with Alabama's diversity, it is the most complete database of any that exists in the state.
