| DATABASE ABSTRACT (A brief summary of the data set): |
| The Natural Diversity database contains information on locations
of rare plants and animals and exemplary natural communities.
Since 1978 data has been gathered from a broad range of sources
including museum and herbarium records, publications, experts and
field surveys.

| PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE: |
| The Natural Diversity database was developed by the Arkansas Natural Heritage
Commission to provide the agency with an objective system for evaluating areas
for acquisition and protection. Since the database includes the locations of
rare species and high quality natural communities, it is useful for project
and land management planning and has been made available to outside users
through the agency's information sharing program. |
