ORIGINATOR (Owner/Agency) The Nature Conservancy & CO Natural Heritage Program.
DATABASE NAME Biological and Conservation Datasystem
DATABASE ACRONYMS BCD
DATABASE ABSTRACT (A brief summary of the data set):
Biological and Conservation Datasystem is populated and updated with biological, rarity and legal status, locations, and protection information for rare and imperiled animals, plants and significant natural communities of Colorado. The structure of the datasystem was developed by The Nature Conservancy who continues to maintain it, while actual state records are entered by CNHP. At this time, approximately 7000 locational records exist, which are based on actual field surveys, museum, and herbaria literature and other sources.
PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE:
To make available comprehensive, up-to-date information on known locations of significant, imperiled biological resources to land managers, planners, developers, private land owners, and others capable of taking conservation actions or making land use decisions.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION (Agency Mandate, etc.):
Some information maintained by The Colorado Natural Heritage Program is considered Sensitive. It is deemed as such by specific landowners or regulatory agencies. CNHP will work with individual requestors on a case by case basis to meet information needs appropriately.

COMMENTS REGARDING DATASET USE CONSTRAINTS:
Careful interpretation of the data is important to CNHP and we encourage review of docs in which CNHP data are used. Data sensitivity is an issue dealt with on case by case basis with many solutions.
DATA ACCURACY:
DATA QUALITY INFORMATION (How accurate is the information?):
Locational data are at four levels of precision as standard methodology dictates.
QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL MEASURES USED:
Stringent quality control of data is implemented at two levels of processing. This is also part of standard methodology.
