| DATABASE ABSTRACT (A brief summary of the data set): |

| Data on juvenile and adult fishes are collected using stratified
and fixed station sampling strategies in five Florida Estuaries
(Choctawhatchee Bay, Tampa Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Florida Bay and
the Indian River Lagoon). Data recorded include species number
collected, standard length measurements, physical parameters of
the water (temp., salinity, etc), various habitat descriptors
(depth, type of bottom vegetation, etc) and location (Lat./Long). |
| PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE: |

| The main purpose of the data are to develop indices of relative
abundance for this and macro-crustacean species that are of
recreational and/or commercial importance. Data are also useful
for identifying habitat requirements of specific species assessing
certain life history parameters (age and growth, mortality) and
looking at species interactions. |

| The program uses a holistic approach so all species of fish and
macrocrustaceans are worked up. Attributes that are measured
include species, number collected, representivees standard
lengths, sex, water temp., salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH,
bottom type, bottom vegetation, percent cover of bottom
vegetation, shore vegetation, depth, tide, date, time,
Latitude/Longitude, wind speed and direction, moonphase,
sunrise and sunset, secchi depth and cloud cover.
