DATABASE NAME Biological Conservation Data system
DATABASE ACRONYMSBCD
DATABASE ABSTRACT (A brief summary of the data set):
The North Dakota Natural Heritage Program (NDNHP) maintains the most comprehensive inventory of the state's ecological resources. Information on the status and distribution of exemplary natural communities, rare and endangered plant and animal species, and unique geological features - the "elements" of natural diversity - is collected and stored in the BCD. Map (U.S.G.S topographic) files, manual files, and computer files keep the data organized and accessible.
PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE:
The North Dakota Natural Heritage Program (NDNHP) maintains the most comprehensive inventory of the state's ecological resources. To provide a continuous process for identifying valuable natural areas and setting land protection priorities.

DATA QUALITY INFORMATION (How accurate is the information?):
80-85% accuracy. Precision to which each element occurrence can be located on a map include the following:
seconds: accuracy of locality mappable within a 3 second radius
minutes: accuracy of locality mappable within a 1 minute radius
general: to quad or place name precision only
unmappable: cannot be mapped due to incomplete or inaccurate information
QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL MEASURES USED:
Mapped and transcribed element occurrences are checked for transcription errors prior to computerization. Once element occurrence has been computerized it is then checked for data entry errors.
