DATABASE ABSTRACT (A brief summary of the data set):
Database is part of a database network of Heritage Programs in all fifty states, many Canadian provinces, and foreign countries. Heritage Program databases are used on the Biological and Conservation Database (BCD), a standardized database used by Natural Heritage Program. A list of rare, threatened, and endangered species and natural communities has been developed and occurrences are monitored (194 animal species, 220 plants, 111 natural communities).
PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE:
The SD Natural Heritage Database is used for environmental review, conservation planning, and for providing information to the scientific community and the public.
