| To classify Virginia, three separate (but fairly similar) methods were used. These roughly correspond to the three main physiographic provinces in the Commonwealth: mountains (green, topographic processing), piedmont (red, straight hypercluster aggregation), and coastal plain (blue, haze correction). Ideally one standard methodology should be used. However, the classification system was general enough to allow flexibility in dealing with regional problems.
