The 30m resolution of TM imagery fits nicely with the first objective of multiple scales. The six bands or files representing sections of the electromagnetic spectrum, including blue, green, red, near-infrared, and 2 mid-infrared, add great discriminatory power. As mentioned above it takes 14 scenes to cover the Commonwealth. Fifteen scenes were provided, but due to overlap, one was omitted from this analysis. Each scene is supposed to be multi-temporal, meaning, having leaf-off seasonal imagery and leaf-on seasonal imagery. However, several scenes had only one date and several others had either both leaf-on, or both leaf-off. For this initial land cover map only one season was used. Leaf-off was preferred due to greater discrimination between conifers and deciduous trees and also because of less haze.
