PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: smallest baleen whale in this area;
length=23-33 feet; triangular head, tall dorsal fin about 1/3 forward
from the tail, large pointed pectoral fins; color is dark grey on back
and white on the belly and under flippers *1043,1035*; REPRODUCTION:
breeds from October to March; gestation is 10 months; one offspring per
reproduction period; one period per year; sexual maturity at 2 years;
mixed breeding herds *1043,1044,1025*; BEHAVIOR: not as gregarious as
other Balaenopterids, young are weaned at about 5 months *1035,1044*;
ORIGIN: native *1043*
