LIFE HISTORY
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: length=2.5 m; flippers are long, 1/2
body length; tail fluke width is 1/4 body length; color is variable,
often with white or pink patches on the sides and belly; the most
distinctive characteristic is the long beak, not separated from the
forehead by a groove; there are 20-27 teeth with many vertical ridges on
the crown; vertebral formula is C7+T13+L15-16+Ca30-31; phalangeal
formula is I:3, II:8-9, III:6-7, IV:6, V:2 *2094,1043,1037*;
REPRODUCTION: unknown *1043*; BEHAVIOR: occurs in small groups, 50 or
less; found off the edge of the continental slope; may ride the bow
waves of ships *2094,1043*
