Cappy: Giles' Goatball

Robert H. Giles, 1983

Under development and design ...

A game related to the Goat System and to NovoSports.

Cappy is an no-hero game. It is intended to be fast moving and everyone get a turn. It has a commercial dimension for The Goat System, the publications of rules, etc, developing a market, and sale of balls and their filling. Tournaments may be held. Memberships and team registration may be required. It needs to be patented and name copyrighted. It can be played over reough terrain. Kicking with both feet can be amusing and use different muscles than conventional games. New body movements are needed. Great cooperation is needed between players to carry.

A goatball is about 18 inches in diameter (about 1 x 2 feet), made of several colors of tanned goat skins (hair on and outside) somewhat round each has a unique shape, and is tightly packed (a dense pillow effect with about 3 pounds of kapok, the seedheads of cattail (Typha)

Start:

There are at least 2 goatballs, preferable 4

There are 4 quarters to the game period

Two balls are used, one in each quarter, alternatively (if 4 are present, a new ball each quarter) Starter gets to chose the ball and the starting end of the field.

5 points are gained when a side carries the ball over the goal

The startoff is by a 2-handed throw from the goal line to the other team which is aligned at its goal line

The same person may not throw after a goal ghrow until all have thrown once

All throwing is 2-handed

The ball is worked into position for carrying between 2 people after it stops jumping around.

Carries the ball is without hands and pressed between the body of 2 people

When carriers drop the ball, the othe team gets the ball

Ball may be kicked after each carry.

A kick must be done with both feet simultaneously to the front of a kicker. A kick is always away from the goal or to the side ( a kick cannot advance the ball.

After each kick, the ball must be carried

After a carry, another carry is possible but only by another pair of players (including neither of the carriers in the last play of the game

There must be at least 2 carries between any individual's carrying effort

The other team seks to kick a dropped ball its carriers in a good area pf the field.

Carriers may not be touched by the other team.

Carrier team may not push anyone into a carrier.

Any penalty allows a free kick at the point of the infraction

An especially pleasing paly (humerous, fearless, antics, etc.) gets the team an extra point

After a score, scoring team kicks to another team with conventional soccer/football kick from midline. The other team stands along the goal line.

The ball is not touched by hands.

Players cannot join hands to form a protective wall or fence

If kicked over the goal, the ball must be returned to the kicking team at the mid line

If a person has fallen or is prone in front of the kicker, the ball cannot be kicked. If it is, a penalty situaytion results

In co-ed goatball, only a boy and girl may be a carrier pair

Carriers cannot hold onto each other or either hold any part of clothing of the other

Oven then under passing may be required (after testing)
