Grouse GPSlips

GPSlips are plastic tags 2-inches by 4 inches, yellow in color that are attached to a stem near to where grouse are flushed. The hunter or nature observer writes date and time on the tag and continues without interuption in his/her field activity.

Later, observers with a GPS device return to the area, get the exact location of each tag and then use that location within a GIS system to analyze the characteristics of areas in which grouse were observed. Changes over the year may be noted.

The slips are designed to be in the field for a year. They should take a ball-point pen ink. They will be sold in packets of 20. A plastic or wire tie-on is needed. By having a perforated or pre-cut mark down the side as shown then no costs will be involved in manually attaching wires, strings, etc. They are designed to be loose on the plant or stem in the ground. They are designed to fit into the hip pocket.

Sales of 1000 slips in packets of 20 at $10 result in $500 income. If imprinted on the back with advertising or an educational message(s) and used as conference of school gifts, the gains may be substantial.

The GPSlips can be used in other studies and projects but select use is needed in different areas and the slips need to be recovered for they soon become research litter.
