Sustained forests; sustained profits

For people interested in the lands and waters of Virginia or those that dearly loved the waters of the state and loved (or now love) angling, the following opportunities exist. We shall make presentations at appropriate times (including news releases) or provide materials for an occasion (An awards banquet; retirement party; or surprise event at a meeting or picnic).
Suggestions follow and we welcome other ideas:
Scholarship: A scholarship (full or partial) to Virginia Tech to support a student studying fishery topics selected and planned by Lasting Forest. Scolarships range from typically $500 to an endowment of $20,000 or more that provides an annual award. Tax relief is available.
Book: Have The Fishery contract for writing and publishing a book on some aspect of The Fishery-- perhaps a favorite stream, pond, or fish species.
Estimate: variable $10,000 to $50,000. A foreword and preface add to the lasting nature of the gift in libraries throughout the region.
Research: a variety of planned research project grants are available ranging from $500 to support independent work by advanced undergraduate students to the typical 2-year Master of Science project usually requiring $40,000.
Laboratory Equipment: Modern laboratory equipments may be donated to The Fishery for use in its laboratory. Units may be specific (e.g., with an honorary plaque attached) or general for combination with other resources. This may include computers, water analysis, and biological equipment.
Field Equipment: Boots and trailers may be contributed. Other field equipment of an observational, managerial, or law enforcement nature can be used. Angling equipment: flies, plugs, etc, will be used in our youth education programs and contests.
Stream Improvement: The beauty of a trout stream pool below a newly installed stream device is well known. A plaque at such a place can be a wonderful sight to a loved one (range: $500 to $3,000).
Sentinal Plaque: We place a bronze plaque with a loved-one's name and date into giant stream-side or pond-side boulders. These have served as the place where ashes were dispersed. The small, heavy bronze plate symbolically "oversees" the water while the contribution develops and enhances the effectiveness ofThe Fishery in water-related resource management.
Nest Boxes: Well-designed, diverse nest boxes for wood ducks, raccoons, owls, woodpeckers, bats, and squirrels are placed around ponds and stream banks to enhance the overally quality of the protected areas and the quality of the anglers' experiences (range: $30-$50 in multiple units).
Reefs: We construct underwater reefs for fish breeding, feeding, resting, and nesting. These are built in managed ponds and lakes. A bank-side plaque signifies the long-term improvement for anglers (range: $1,000 to $10,000).
Special Units: A water-overturn system; a natural feeding raft; an automated water monitor; computer animation-- a variety of unusual, powerful, small systems are needed and can have long-lasting influence (range: $100 to $50,000).
Native Pet Fish Aquaculture: A structure in the name of a benefactor can assure fish conservation, preserve select endangered fish, and propagate small fish for growing aquarium interests that can be directed to native Virginia fish. Profits produced therein enhance The Fishery. Estimated cost: $500,000.
