A Unique Award, Recognition...(or Simply Personal Satisfaction) Unit
Offered Only by Lasting Forests and Allied Marketing, Inc., Tampa, Florida

If you are looking for an unusual and certain-to-be-appreciated award for your boss, dad, leader of the clan, or outgoing officer of a group, this is it. It is unique. No one else offers the potential. It is of lasting value to the person, the group, and it is likely to be newsworthy ... thus promoting the interests of the group.

It is a book (or a knowledge-base unit), written for you under contract on a topic of interest to the person being honored. All topics are about the wildlands, hunting, fishing, animals, plants, soil, forests, etc. We develop the book under contract with experts affiliated with major universities. It is inscribed with information about the honoree and dedicated in his or her name. There is limited original artwork (black and white sketches). Any number of copies may be ordered and they may be sent to high schools, universities, local libraries, etc. They, themselves, make wonderful recognition and awards and may become marketing devices.

Expensive seeming, the books make great sense when 50-100 people are asked to contribute to an award and everyone knows the guy wont appreciate a watch. There has to be something special, of lasting value, important, a contribution. That is what this award provides you.

With your consent, the material is also added to a web page about the wildlands and becomes a resource for people (including children), worldwide, about the environment.

Some of the funds are used to assist advanced students of wildland resource management while they are in school.

Get us to develop a knowledge-base unit (a KBU) on a species. These are 2-3 pages of text very intensively written describing how a single species can be managed. We have developed over 50 such KBUs but there are hundreds of species and an award helps build this knowledge base as well as provides practical information gleaned from the libraries of the world and based on research already done on the species over the years. This is a highly synthetic, very practical, here-is-what-to-do document to improve the conditions for a single wildlife species. Click on our sample for the raccoon. Call us if there are special requests. Click on the list of high priority species and topics. The cost, a mere $500 per KBU. Let us develop one (or more) for a favorite fish, bird, mammal, salamander, wild flower, or tree. For the person who respects things very practical and of long-term value, these units are a perfect match with their orientation.

Let us develop a booklet about a species or wildland topic. These are typically 32 pages long and describe the species, all of the significant biology and ecology, and they also include management recommendations (much in the fashion of the KBU described above). For the person fascinated by alligators all of their lives, this is the award. A hunter seeking ruffed grouse with their favorite spaniel will appreciate a booklet about the grouse...or about grouse hunting dogs and their role in wildlife management. The bass angler may know all there is to know about the big fish but will appreciate contributing to synthesizing knowledge about protecting and maintaining one of the minnows upon which the bass feeds. Each booklet project costs $5000. The copies resulting from the project may be given to members, schools, biologists, agency staff, etc.

An additional significant component of the booklet project is that others will place the text of each booklet on a key wildland resource web site for permanent storage and use worldwide.

A suggested priority list of booklet projects is available.

A book project is a major contribution to knowledge about a wildland topic. Conducted at Virginia Tech, one of the top 10 wildlife programs in the US, the project takes 2 years and a book results from the graduate work of a superior student supervised by a group of 3 university professors. This book is a popularized, re-written, master-of-science thesis. The project therefore has 2 products, the thesis and the book, but ...more important...it contributes to the education of a future leader within the wildland and resource management field and the honoree as well as the students know and appreciate this. The thesis goes to the library, the thesis becomes available via the internet (one of the first in the US), a book is published, the book itself goes on to a key wildland resource information system, and a graduate student and future leader is benefited. Not bad, all for $45,000. (In some situations, these funds may be used for tax advantage. We can discuss the options.) A list of important, high priority topics is available but we need to discuss these and in some cases meet to make final arrangements. The graduate student selection is strictly independent of the award; the Faculty selects superior students.
