Dr. Gary R. Evans is the Project Director for the Natural Resources Distance Learning Consortium for Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources. Dr. Evans has extensive US Department of Agriculture natural resources experience with part and full time employment from 1960 to 1999, including Forest Service; Natural Resources Conservation Service; Cooperative States Research, Education and Extension Service; and Agricultural Research Service. Dr. Evans served as Chief Scientist (Global Change Issues) to Secretaries of Agriculture from 1989 to 1996. Dr. Evans served on and chaired review teams at land grant university schools of forestry and agriculture during his tenure at CSREES.
Dr. Evans has extensive experience in adult learning programs, having served on USDA Graduate School faculty since 1979. Dr. Evans teaches ecology courses. He currently serves as Chair of the Natural Resources Field Studies Advisory Committee and is on the USDA Graduate School Futures Committees. He was appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to serve on the Graduate School Administrative Board, 1992 -1994, and also served on the Board's Executive Committee. Dr. Evans is on the College of Natural Resources faculty at Virginia Tech, where he has taught Urban Forestry and Landscape Ecology. He is participating in the Round Tables on Sustainable Rangeland and Sustainable Forestry.
