A Capsule of Project Pivotal-Rig A potential project of Rural Nelson

It is a project to gain local approval, support, and action for

• implementing the Pivotal Strategy,
• creating a natural-resource and environmental conglomerate called
  Pivotal-Rig. Inc., and
• making it work within Nelson County and elsewhere now and for the future.

What

The project promotes a new form of a sound, diverse, private-enterprise-based natural resource system for people.

Project Pivotal-Rig is designed to

• Develop a strategy of improved quality of life for modern people in rural areas and communities
• Develop a diverse, extended, not-for-profit enterprise (tentatively called Pivotal-Rig, Inc.) that improves land (and related natural resources) through continually-improving management
• Improve the land for people now and for later.

Project Pivotal-Rig is a conservation and education strategy for people in a small county in Virginia to become recognized as the international center of a new activity and enterprise for:

• Engaging in diverse, private natural resource management that is supportive of profit-oriented land management
• Improving use and developing private lands and waters
• Creating employment opportunities and new components of a tax base
• Assisting existing related enterprises.

Who

• All involved in any aspect of community development and related natural resource management systems
• Rural and town landowners who voluntarily participate
• Pivotal-Rig, Inc. staff
• Cooperating enterprises.

When
Year around.

Where
Nelson County, Virginia, then surrounding areas, then internationally.

The Action

• Hiking and camping and other tourism activities
• Photography and contests
• Forestry and tours of superior forests
• Trail building projects and trail rides
• Nature Folks and other organizations with units of Owls, Coyotes, Raccoon, Turkey, Deer, and Bobcats
• Writers' camps
• Product sales (list available)
• Regional, national, and international tours
• Software services and educational products (e.g., computer maps and land management advice)

A description is available herein of the conglomerate tentatively-called Pivotal-Rig, Inc. which has over 53 potential units likely to be profitable when active and sensitively managed with computer aids as a single system.

The Payoff

Proportions of profits to:

• The County (a tax base)
• Landowners and citizens who participate
• Staff and participating enterprises (e.g., foresters, tour groups, hotels, etc.) in addition to contract work

... and vast county and regional benefits in employment, population stability, and improved environmental conditions and quality of life. People will come to the area to see, learn about, and participate in Pivotal action, a unique, new concept in meaningful sustained environmental quality for people. Nelson County and vicinity may become known as that pivotal place.
