A Collection of River and Watershed Notes

Bob Giles has notes on
watershed structure and function,
strategic plans for watersheds,
wetlands ,
riparian areas,
stream debris, and
soil movement or erosion
topics that may be of interest since they may relate to strategic watershed work.

Jay Gillam, Save Our Streams ( Izaac Walton League), reported (June, 2004) the Virginia DEQ are able to assess the health of only about 26% of the 50,000 miles of rivers and streams of the state. Of these that are monitored (miles or streams?) 45% do not meet state water quality standards. Of the resource, 74% are not monitored.
