Peculiar Manor is a log cabin in a Virginia mountain forest (near Salem, Virginia) next to a 7000-acre state wildlife area. Peculiar Manor is also a book about the author's philosophy, experience. It is based on his very diverse, 40-year career in forestry, wildlife conservation, and environmental management. This book is a walk in the woods with an experienced wildland manager. It is also provides reflections during his long evenings by the fireside on conditions that now affect the great outdoors and its management. He suggests what must be done.
This book supports the distance-learning courses titled Essentials of Wildlife Resource Management and Gamma Theory- Modern Wildlife Resource Management.
This is also a book for some back-yard bird watchers, environmentalists, and nature lovers as well as the basis for potentially exciting discussions in graduate seminars in natural resource management. (Throughout the text there are links to other materials within the author's website, www.LastingForests.com.)
