Wetlands usually provide high quality sites for many birds and mamamals. Waterfowl are a favotite important resource as well as are muskrats and beaver. They are valuable for amphibian richness.
These areas need to be protected from drainage and filling, from pollution and accumulation of toxins. They fill naturally and in some areas blasting or draglines may be used to retain open water for wildlife. Selective burning or grazing may be used to change conditions. Nest boxes are frequently used successfully for wood ducks.
