The Arguments Against Littering
Why not? Because...in no special order
- Many people perceive the results as ugly
- It can be dangerous (trips, slips, falls, cuts, distractions while driving)
- It is expensive to pick up
- It can be dangerous to wildlife
- It is harmful to eco-, heritage, cultural and other types of tourism
- It detracts from land value
- Containers hold water and breeding areas for mosquitos, especially some disease carriers (e.g., West Nile virus)
- It prevents the flow of items to recycling units
