Title: Baseline Studies: The Coyote in Virginia

Objectives:

  1. To describe ecological baseline studies.
  2. To describe their meaning, use, and relevance.
  3. To describe relevant analytical techniques in such studies.
  4. To describe baseline coyote population abundance estimates and a system for continual studies.

Overview:

1. Continue prior work on theory of invasion and predation

2. Review and organize literature: what have people called baseline studies. Explain variety of uses.

3. Solidify a concept.

4. Develop BASIC analytic techniques .. how to handle the data.

5. Coyote - review invasions

Baseline: surveys 1, 2, 3 Howling (record lines)

How to refute bad claims; how to support claims of range expansion.

6. Lessons from coyote study re baseline.
