The southern bog lemming, Synaptomys cooperi is recognized as consisting of 7 subspecies *PA10176:1*. There are a number of common names that this mammal is known by besides the southern bog lemming. As cited by several authors it has been called, lemming mouse, Cooperis lemmy mouse, Coopers lemming vole *5265:220*, and field mice *3854:336*. The type locality for Synaptomys cooperi is recognized as Jackson, Carroll County, New Hampshire *PA11458:504, PA10176:1*.
