Wildl. Soc. Bull. 16:104, 1988 WILDLIFE SOFTWARE NEW FEATURE FOR THE WILDLIFE SOCIETY BULLETIN The Council of The Wildlife Society has approved the establishment of a Computer Software Exchange (CSE) that will facilitate the development, review, and distribution of computer software with special application for wildlife research and management. CSE will be coordinated with the SESAME on-line bulletin board, currently operated by the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife and Fisheries Statistics project at North Carolina State University. A Software Retrieval Database will be established and maintained by CSE for the purpose of cataloging and supplying wildlife software that has undergone a process of review coordinated by the Software Editor of the Wildlife Society Bulletin. The unique objective of the CSE is to establish a process of peer review for wildlife software. This will ensure that contributions available from the Software Retrieval Database have undergone a review that considers the significance of the software, documentation format, software engineering, ease of use, and adequate testing. Contributors to CSE will send source codes, executable files, example input files, a reference manual, and an article that describes the application. If, after peer review, the contribution is accepted for the Software Retrieval Database, the article will be published in the Wildlife Society Bulletin. Dr. Michael D. Samuel has been appointed Software Editor of the Wildlife Society Bulletin. He will be responsible for establishing the review procedures for Wildlife Software contributions and for maintaining the Software Retrieval Database in cooperation with the managers of SESAME. Potential contributors may obtain guidelines for submission and review of wildlife software from Dr. Samuel: Michael D.
