The Henry Mosby Wildlife Trail Committee

The Henry Mosby Wildlife Trail Committee is in charge of maintenance and upkeep of a wildlife and walking trail behind the VT Visitor's Center. The trail meanders through the land beyond the Visitor's Center and exhibit examples of backyard habitats. This trail allows visitors to see firsthand how backyard wildlife habitats can be constructed and the ease of making backyards wildlife friendly. Please contact the Committee Chair or Co-Chair with volunteer or project questions. We welcome questions, and always appreciates a helping hand!

Clearing Blackberry bushes from Site #1

Sod is broken and removed on site two so the tiller can dig in without getting clogged.

After roots, vines, sod, and large rocks are removed the area is tilled.

After tilling plants are put in.

The holes are dug to a specification: Just as deep as the root ball and three times as wide. This soil has a layer of gravel from past construction that is hard to dig through. It is important to achieve these dimensions so that the roots are not flooded with water or drain too quickly.

Fertilizer and humus are mixed into the dirt surrounding the rootball and lightly pressed. These are some plants near the lower entrance.

This is a redbud in site two, dedicated to the late Dr. Scanlon.
